The Heart as the Key to Wellness: Part 1

Written by Nayo Wills, M.D. on September 27th, 2012
Our hearts are not just physical organs that support our physical life, the heart is the seat of Universal Intelligence and creative energy. They are the connection to our Authentic, Higher Selves. It’s connected to the Source of All (happiness, wellness, peace, abundance, etc.).

We each have a heart-brain connection that allows a state of coherence and wellness in our mental, emotional and physical bodies.

Coherence is the state of well-being, when the heart is guiding our physical health as well as our experiences on Earth.

A coherent state reflects a healthy, regular heart rhythm/pattern. It occurs when I am in a state of love via gratitude, joy, generosity, compassion, forgiveness, etc.

The heart has its own nervous system or brain, and speaks to the thinking brain. It does so 4 ways:

a. Neurologically, through nerve impulses

b. Biochemically, through hormones and neurotransmitters

c. Biophysically, through pressure waves

d. Energetically, through electromagnetic fields

Our hearts gather, process and interpret information via these communication systems. The heart then responds in the most holistic way if we are connected to this energy.

Be aware of the Amygdala. It is part of the thinking brain, and it stores emotional significance to any experiences we have had. If we are not present and connected to the heart, the thinking brain will instinctively respond to all new experiences through the filter of past experiences. This is usually experienced as experiencing present day interactions or situations through the lens of fear.

Stay tuned for more on the Heart…
